School Secretary

Description

Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School in Beloit has approximately 120 students, Pre-K through Grade 8.  We are in search of school secretary.

A school secretary is often the unrecognized heartbeat of a school.  A school’s secretary is often the first person you meet as you enter a school for the first time. She is also the first person you talk to on the telephone. While she serves as a representative of the school, the secretary often performs many tasks that are not listed on her job description.  The secretary is the person behind every schedule, meeting, record, bill, and file contained in a school building. Most school personnel will gladly tell you that if the information is to be found, the secretary will know how to find it.

Qualifications

Qualities of a School Secretary

The type of person who will fare best as a school secretary is one that is people oriented, can multi-task, understands secretarial duties, and is highly organized. The school secretary has to complete work in a timely manner to meet deadlines while keeping schedules for teachers, principals, and events. This same secretary must greet all visitors, answer the school phone to direct calls, make announcements, and complete billing.

Good organizational skills are necessary for this job so the secretary can get her hands on the desired information immediately. While the secretary often has some leeway as to how she accomplishes her daily tasks, she must be able to prioritize assignments so she completes them on time. She often needs to multi-task, especially on days when her supervisor, parents and students place extra demands on her. To perform her daily tasks, the secretary must make efficient use of technology such as computers and photocopiers.

Applicants of the Catholic faith may be given preference.
